WEMSA

2020-05-10 - 2020-09-27

Back by popular demand, multi class racing returns to ACRL! This time, it's the excellent IER P13c LMP1 car, otherwise known as the HPD ARX-03 (the last of the non-hybrid LMP1's), mixing it up with the familiar trio of ACRL GTE cars - the Corvette C7r, Ferrari 488 and Porsche 911 RSR. This season takes us on a tour of North America and Europe, visiting iconic tracks like Sebring, Road America, Spa and Silverstone, with a little jaunt out to South East Asia for a round at Thailand's Chang circuit to spice things up a little.

Is it WEC? Is it IMSA? No, it's WEMSA.

Scoring System

Base Points
50
The maximum points for the combined split position in each race. So for base points of 50, with two splits of 32, split 1 would yield 50 for 1st down to 19 for last, split 2 would yield 18 for 1st, down to 1 for 18th, and 0 thereafter.
Split Bonus
Split 1: 5
Split 2: 0
The bonus for racing in each split. Typically split 1 will have a small bonus, added to the score for each race a driver starts in it.
Split Position Bonus
Split 1: 1st - 10, 2nd - 8, 3rd - 6, 4th - 3, 5th - 1
Split 2: 1st - 5, 2nd - 3, 3rd - 1
The bonus for finishing in a given position in a given split.
Drops
1
The number of lowest scoring events to exclude race results for in the season standings for all drivers. DNF and DNS count towards drops, so missing an event entirely or not finishing is a drop.
Race Modifiers
Race 1: 1
For seasons with multiple races per event, typically a Feature and Sprint race with grid reversal, a modifier may be applied to one of the races. For example, if the second race is a longer feature race, it may be worth 1.5 times the points.

Briefing

WEMSA

Thank you for joining us this season.  Please take a few minutes to read this briefing, and make sure you are familiar with the rules and procedures.

Content

Required Official Kunos DLCs:

You will also need our modified versions of the GTE cars. Unpack the contents of the zip file into the usual ...\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content\cars folder.

Those who do not own the P13C can still race in the GTE class without having to purchase the mod, although we thoroughly recommend getting it. With approval from IER, we are providing a "nerfed" car that still passes checksum for drivers of other cars in multi-player, but has neutered physics that make the car undriveable on its own.

To race the P13c you will need to purchase the car from HERE.  If you are driving a GTE, you can download the nerfed version HEREMake sure you read the installation guide in the zip file.  You cannot install it by just dropping the ZIP onto Content Manager.

Because the P13c uses CSP (the Custom Shaders Patch) to provide the extra physics, it is sensitive to CSP version.  If you run Content Manager with CSP, you will very probably need to run version 0.1.46, which is currently the most recent "Recommended" version.  Fortunately this is a one click operation in the CSP settings tab in CM.

For the tracks you'll find a link under the respective events. Example for Road America go to the Driver Briefing tab and scroll down to Content Downloads.

Useful (although not essential) apps to have are the Rolling Start and ACRL Fuel apps.

LMP1 Licensing

Multi-class racing is inherently difficult, especially for the drivers of faster class cars.  In order to help reduce incidents we are requiring all prospective P13C drivers to acquire a "LMP License".  Anyone can register with the P13c, but you will be required to participate in one or both of the Qualification Races prior to the season proper starting and be approved by the mod team.  Basically, just show up, be smart with your overtakes, and prove you're capable of handling the car.  You don't need to be fast, just be safe.

If you are not approved for the LMP1 class, you will have the choice of selecting a GTE car, or withdrawing from the season.  if this happens to you, please don't take it personally, and understand that the people making the decisions have decades of combined multi-class sim racing experience, and did not make the decision lightly.

Qualification Races

The two Qualification Races for LMP1 licensing are as follows.  While not strictly necessary to attend for GTE drivers, we obviously need as many as possible to provide a "target rich environment" for the LMPs.  It's also a good chance to make sure you have all the content installed properly, get familiar with the rolling start procedure and with multi-class racing in general.  To sweeten the pot a little for GTE drivers, we are giving away full licenses for the IER P13c to three random GTE finishers in each race.  Winners will be informed through email, and (if we can find you) in our Discord server.

Basic Format

This series has no regional split, and all races will be run in the regular ACRL EU time slot, with the servers going up at 7pm Rome for the start of practice.  In order to race, you must check-in on the event page on this site at least 10 minutes before the start of practice.  Check-in is open for the week before the event.  If we have more than 40 cars in an event, the race will be split according to times set in Pre-Quali (PQ).  There will be two PQ servers running for the week, one per class.  See the Driver Briefing and Pre-Quali tabs on each event page on this site for details.

There are 8 rounds (not counting the qualification races), varying between 80 and 105 minutes, with a 2 hour season finale. Each event will be a 1 hour practice, with a 35 minute quali, and the race.  Damage, tire wear and fuel rate are all 100%.  Temperatures will vary from low teens to mid 30's, with a weather forecast available in the Driver Briefing forr each event.  PQ servers will be similar temps, although there is some randomness built in to the race server configuration.

There are no mandatory pit stop requirements, although the race lengths mean that everyone will need to pit - so if you've never pitted before, make sure you learn how!  The very useful ACRL Fuel app for figuring fuel needed for timed races, written by our very own Dr Adder, is available here.

Class Qualifying

The 35m qualifying session in each event is split between classes.  The first 15m is for LMP1s, then a 5m change over while LMPs finish flying laps and get back to the pits, then the GTEs go out for the last 15m.  We have a server side plugin which sends messages to all drivers, clearly visible on screen without needing to have the chat app open, giving instructions for when you can leave the pits for your session.  If you are on track at the wrong time, you may well be disqualified, so pay attention.  Although you don't have to use it, there is a useful companion app for the qualifying session and rolling start messages available here.

Blue Flags

As this is a multi-class field, blue flag rules are a little different to single class racing.  The requirements depend on which class of car you are being flagged for.

Drivers in the slower (GTE) class are not required to give way to cars in the higher (LMP1) class. They are entitled to the racing line and it is the responsibility of the faster class to carry out the overtake safely. Drivers in the slower class are simply required to keep their lines consistent and predictable to facilitate lapping by the faster class.  In other words, blue flags are not mandatory. You do not need to (and shouldn't) jump out of the way when an LMP1 is coming up to lap you, but you should cooperate in making the pass easy.

However, for cars in the same class, the usual Blue Flag rules apply, and you must let the lapping driver pass as soon as practically possible. Failure to do so will result in a penalty, and is a reportable offense by the lapping driver.

In short: Blue flag from LMP1? You're entitled to the piece of track you're on, they have to find a way by you, but you should cooperate. Blue Flag from same class of car? Let them by.

Rolling Starts

This series features rolling starts for races. The start procedure is governed by a server side plugin, no need for an app in-game, although there is a useful ACRL App here you can use..  The plugin sends clearly visible messages to all drivers.

Class Leaders are the pole sitters in each class who decide when to start the race for their class, within a predetermined zone which will be communicated through the app.  The start zone starts at some point before the start/finish line, and ends at the s/f line.  Regardless of whether the class leader has started, when the "GO!!" message is given for a class at the end of the start zone, their race has started. Class leaders must keep steady at 100kph, cannot brake to try and back the entire field in order get a run while everyone is recovering. We recognize this is allowed in real life, but if we allow it, it will result in complete disaster. Once the class leader accelerates they are not allowed to slow down again. There are no dummy starts allowed, once the class leader accelerates, the race has begun for that class. Again, this is all in an effort to make rolling starts work. If someone is deemed to have had an illegal start to a race, they will be subject to reports and penalties through the standard incident system.

The exact procedure is as follows:

  • When the lights go out, the formation lap starts, in single file.
  • The class leaders will be given instructions on what speed to maintain (about 100km/h), and (for GTEs) to maintain a gap to the class in front, which needs to be about 5 seconds.
  • Everyone else will be told which car to follow.
  • Towards the end of the lap, all drivers will be instructed to go double file, which side of the track they need to be on, and to stop weaving.
  • All drivers will be told when the start zone is approaching.
  • As each class leader enters the start zone, they will be instructed to go when they are ready.  They can then go at any point up till the end of the start zone.
  • The race starts either when your class leader goes, or when the "GO" message is broadcast to all drivers (whichever comes first).  Watch your class leader, and go when they do!
  • It is strictly prohibited for the class leaders to accelerate and slow down in the start zone, they must maintain a steady speed, and as soon as they accelerate, the race has started (for that class).
